Brazil and Argentina will launch satellites to surveillance at seas activities on 2015

Argentina and Brazil will be launching their first two jointly developed scientific satellites for research along the Atlantic coast in a year, according to Brazil’s Science and Technology minister Antonio Raupp.



Caracas, 16/07/2014.- Scientific authorities of Argentina and Brazil hope to have ready "the two satellites (small size) will be launched in 2015", and will serve to surveillance, sighting, control on the Mercosur’s zone, as well to protect inside the South Atlantic", the Brazilian Minister of Science and Technology; Marco Antonio Raupp, said.

The idea of the project is to enable industries of the two countries "to developing their capacities by manufacturing the main components for these satellites", by driving both fields: the operational and launch"; the minister, explained.

The two satellites on orbit, will keep on tracking  - at the Atlantic coasts of the two countries (Mercosur members) each one - will have an estimated - 500 kilos - weight, Brazil will ship the structure - Argentina will carry the payload; the Minister, explained.

The mentioned satellites are part of the Sabia-Mar project and were signed by the two countries in 2007, but for different reason were paralyzed for many years, but last year it was retaken back again with the intention to keep safe the marine environment and protecting the water resources in the coasts, "from northern Brazil to southern Argentina".



By the same time, Brazil is holding talks with South Africa to build a similar purpose by developing an oceanographic satellite that could operate "focusing on the South Atlantic" even over the Falkland Islands sovereignty on dispute ; Raupp, revealed. Brazil "recognizes Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas (Falkland Islands) and not the British claim" and therefore "will not authorize any requests made from British ships or aircraft in military operations in the Falklands - NATO Military Command"; News - the Eagle's Flights, said.  

Prof. Raupp is researcher and was Director of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) and of the National Institute for Scientific Computing (LNCC). During his tenure as Director of INPE, Prof. Raupp had an active participation in the negotiating process which led at the CBERS program to be a reality between China and Brazil about to protecting - of the Earth Resources - by using Satellite.

With the creation of the Brazilian–Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials on 1991, the two countries have strengthened their nuclear competencies into efficient and effective corporations through the mutual trust.

Also a higher volume is growing at the trade and in the migration process between Argentina and Brazil which has generated closer ties, especially after the implementation of Mercosur in 1991.

Today, the strategic relationship between Argentina and Brazil has achieved “the highest point about its history”. Argentina's foreign policy has made a special emphasis on "going deeper on the strategic alliance with Brazil, in all its aspects" and has granted "absolute priority" on the foreign policy.

After democratization in 1985, the two countries joined in a greater integration accompanied by strong support and collaboration between them. Later on, the Mercosur’s signing was established, in order to create the bases on a regional trade agreement.

The scientific sector between Argentina and Brazil has designed a closer cooperation in the space science field. Meanwhile, the National Space Activities Commission of Argentina and the Brazilian Space Agency have been working together, since the 1990s.

Besides In 2007, Brazil and Argentina successfully launched a rocket into space, becoming the first joint space mission by the two South American nations. The rocket (VS-30) was launched from the Barreira do Inferno Launch Center and respectively the two countries were able to conduct their experiments.

During the state visit of President Lula to Buenos Aires on February 22, 2008, the two countries established a binational commission to pursuing joint at the “uranium enrichment to produce nuclear energy with pacific purposes".

By the way, Brazil has a launch center in the northeastern town of Alcantara, Maranhao state, but currently has no autonomous ability to launch satellites, even though the country has an agreement with China for the joint launch on satellites; News - the Eagle's Flights, said.

Furthermore, Ukraine has an agreement to create launch firm equipment, where Brazil would provide the basis launch and Ukraine the rocket. This agreement has not materialized yet because the financial problems between both nations. In addition, the satellites’ project as others in the space field have the objective of reinforcing “sovereignty” in the region and breaking the dependency from data obtained by satellites from other countries operating over the Atlantic; the Brazilian minister; Raupp, pointed out.
